The second instalment of my series – Aurora.

When and where?
It was very easy to date “Sleeping Beauty”, since Prince Phillip himself claims it is the 14^th century at one point during the movie. Locating it was a bit more difficult. There are no real clues and several European countries would be likely candidates – France, England and Germany are most commonly named. I went with England, manly for the very English sounding names in the movie.

Commentary
So here is Aurora as a 14^th century English Longbow Archer. The English Longbow is traditionally made from yew wood and measures about 180 cm. At up to 150 lbs it takes enormous strength to pull it, so longbow men had to be trained over years to use it properly and were quite valuable. They would shoot arrows in great numbers over distances of up to 200 meters.

The great era of the Longbow Archers was the 14^th and 15^th century were they decided such famous battles as Crecy (1346) and Agincourt (1415).
