Mary Anning was born in 1799 in Lyme Regis. She was one of the earliest professional fossil collectors and contributed a lot to the field of Paleontology. She made her first great discovery at the age of 10, when she discovered the first complete skeleton of an Ichthyosaur:wow:

After the death of their father, Mary and her brother Joseph collected fossils and sold them to feed the family. Collecting the fossils at the cliffs of Lyme Regis was very dangerous; Mary’s little dog Tray was killed by a landslide while he accompanied her.

Her second great discovery was the marine reptile Plesiosaurus Dolichoderius, the third the flying reptile Dimorphodon. Additionally she studied belemnites and coprolites and her reputation as an expert on fossils led to a great number of famous geologists seeking her advice, among them where Gideon Mantell, Charles Lyell and Adam Sedgwick. William Buckland and Richard Owen would even visit Mary and hunt for fossils together with her.

She was made an honorary member of the geological society.

For this drawing I chose an Ichthyosaur that Mary discovered in 1821. It fitted because its resemblance of a dolphin gave me a lot of possibilities. The Fish she is feeding is of the species Leptolepis – scientific analysis showed that Ichthyosaur fed on fish and squid, and since the Leptolepis was around in the era of the Ichthyosaur, I am sure he would find it tasty ;). Mary’s dress is based on this painting: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

I think it's a better tribute to Mary Anning than the movie actually was.
